‘Pass the Salt…and a Megaphone’ – The Wall Street Journal

Loft ceilings, open spaces, walls of windows, hardwood floors and a lack of artwork seem to be all the rage in modern restaurant design, but what designers aren’t taking into account is the resulting, “introduction of noise to today’s already voluble restaurant scene.”  In addition to providing guests with something pleasing to look at, artwork can serve a further purpose: to deflect sound waves.
