Last night, Artists Circle’s Principal – Jack Devine – and an installation crew worked well into the evening installing over one hundred pieces of artwork in the new headquarters building for GXS in Rockville, Maryland. The pieces, selected in advance by GXS employees, were hung in individual offices.
Designed by FOX Architects, the space already had rich, warm fabrics and finishes (not to mention a great view of the Rockville environs out the windows!), but the artwork enhanced the overall feel of the space, making each office warm and inviting. GXS hosted a “preview party” for their staff this afternoon so they could see the office before the “big move” this weekend. We hope they enjoy their artwork!
We at Artists Circle understand everyone is carefully gripping their purse strings. Art is obviously the last item on the check list when a client renovates or moves into a new space; having desks and chairs is more necessary than obtaining artwork. But let us not forget the contributions art can provide: it uplifts employees (which is especially important at this time), gives a positive message to office visitors, and – among other things – it provides creative inspiration.
Designers always seem surprised to hear that we can work with budgets of only a few thousand dollars. When money isn’t available for original pieces of artwork, poster prints are a terrific answer. Once framed and matted, a poster print has a similar level of impact as a painting or collage on paper. This week, we installed a collection of posters for one of our client’s medical buildings in Leesburg, VA (see images below). So think about giving those poor white knuckles a break and loosen up those purse strings a bit. A small budget can yield fantastic results!
